The popular podcast ‘This is History: A Dynasty to Die For’ will be available in Danish in the summer of 2025 through a collaboration between Podster and DR. The podcast brings to life the rise and fall of England’s longest-reigning dynasty, as well as the power struggles that shaped the medieval world.
For over 300 years, the Plantagenets ruled England, producing legendary figures such as Richard the Lionheart, Edward IV, Richard III, Margaret of Anjou and Eleanor of Aquitaine. But the Plantagenet reign was marked by relentless conflict, both within the family and with rival nations. The ongoing hostilities with France are infamous today as the clashes between the two kingdoms led to the Anglo-French wars and the Hundred Years’ War. The civil wars, known as the Wars of the Roses, ultimately resulted in the dynasty’s downfall in 1485.
The Plantagenets’ dramatic history has inspired countless books, films and TV series over the centuries. In the 16th century, playwright William Shakespeare dramatised the dynasty’s warrior kings and author George R. R. Martin drew inspiration from their brutal power struggles when creating the world of Game of Thrones.
“This is History is a gripping account of one of history’s most powerful royal families. Listeners can look forward to an engaging, informative and humorous narrative packed with intrigue,” says Henriette Høj Gharib, CEO of Podster.
The original series is created by award-winning historian and author Dan Jones, known for his books and documentaries on medieval history and the Plantagenets. Jones has once again crafted an entertaining and compelling historical narrative with global appeal. The podcast was nominated for ‘Best History Podcast’ at The Ambies in 2024.
The Danish adaptation, titled I døden for tronen, will be available on the Danish broadcaster DR’s app from June 24 2025. Initially, DR will release 12 episodes of the series. Renowned Danish actress Ditte Hansen, known for Cirkusrevyen, Ditte & Louise and the podcast Mens vi strikker, will host the Danish adaptation.
